Thugs rip off sign at Imagination Creation

Almost ranking with stealing candy from a baby, someone stole the sign for Cobleskill’s Imagination Creation playground.
Cobleskill Police are looking for the thief but have little to go on, an officer said Monday.
Cobleskill Village Groundskeeper Gary Bywater saw the sign was missing Friday morning, so he believes it was taken some time Thursday night.
“It’s kind of low, stealing a sign from a kids’ playground,” Mr. Bywater said.
Stealing the sign would be no spur-of-the-moment theft. It’s four feet long, two feet deep and weighs about 80 pounds.
The sign was also attached to its frame with S-hooks, which a thief would have to pry apart, Mr. Bywater said.
“And you’d probably need a pick-up to get it out of there,” he added.
The sign has hung in front of the Imagination Creation playground, built by the community about 20 years ago, for years, Mr. Bywater said.
He usually takes the sign down before winter and was planning to do so next week.
After finding the sign missing, Mr. Bywater checked with other village and town employees to see whether they had removed it, and they hadn’t.
He called the village police and also notified the SUNY Cobleskill campus security.
“I’m hoping someone sees it hanging on a wall and we can get it back,” Mr. Bywater said.
Anyone with information about the sign should call the Cobleskill Police at 234-2923.
