Lape takes over for Barlow in Richmondville

Richard Lape has taken over the supervisor’s reins from John Barlow in the Town of Richmondville.
Mr. Barlow resigned from the post through Town Attorney Marvin Parshall Jr. just before Thanksgiving because of health reasons.
He recommended Mr. Lape, his deputy supervisor, to replace him and councilmen did just that in a special November 24 meeting.
Mr. Barlow, 70, was a councilman for about 20 years before winning two terms as supervisor.
Mr. Lape had been deputy supervisor for the past three years and served as councilman for five years. He’s also been a trustee for the Village of Richmonndville.
Mr. Barlow is in the VA Hospital in Albany dealing with complications from diabetes but has been in phone contact with him, Mr. Lape said.
“Hopefully, he’ll get his health issues taken care of,” Mr. Lape said. “Our prayers are with him.”
Mr. Lape will serve in the post at least until the November 2011, when he would need to run for his own term if he decides he’s interested.
Right now, he said, there’s a lot going on in Richmondville with reports on the new highway garage, the Cobleskill Creek Trail, and Maranatha’s project expected when the town meets on Thursday at 7pm at the RVES building.
