Middleburgh men lauded for heroism

The New York State Legislature recently adopted a legislative resolution honoring Shane Foland and Chad Lawyer for their heroic act saving a woman from a burning car.
Senate resolution 705 was sponsored by Senator James Seward and adopted on March 8.
Assemblyman Pete Lopez sponsored the same resolution, Assembly resolution 184, which was adopted on March 2.
“The courageous, quick-thinking, heroic act by Shane and Chad saved a life, demonstrating their character and compassion for the welfare of others,” said Senator Seward. “Such a selfless act of neighbor helping neighbor is a fine example of what makes those who live and work in our upstate region so special.”
Mr. Foland, a member of the Middleburgh Fire Department, and his friend, Mr. Lawyer rescued Marjorie Becker from her burning car in Middleburgh on January 21.
Just moments after Mrs. Becker was freed, the car was completely engulfed in flames.
“Chad and Shane risked their own lives in order to preserve the life of another,” said Assemblyman Lopez.
“Ordinary citizens who carry out extraordinary acts are well deserving of recognition, and I am proud to honor these two fine men.”
