No foul play is suspected in the death of a SUNY Cobleskill student who was found unresponsive in a village apartment last week.
At 5:21pm the Cobleskill Police Department and EMS personnel were dispatched to Hammerstone Village Apartments after a 911 call about an unresponsive woman, police said.
Police and EMS arrived on the scene and found a 20-year-old woman who was unresponsive.
The woman, Elizabeth T. Cornelius was pronounced dead at the scene by a Schoharie County coroner, police said.
Though police have released few details of the death, Cobleskill Village Chief Larry Travis said that all indications show that no foul play was involved in the death.
The cause of death has not been released pending the results of a final toxicology report, police said.
It may take months to get the final report, the Chief said.
Ms. Cornelius was originally from the Saratoga-Wilton area, Chief Travis said.
At this time, it is not known who called the report in, he said.
Following the death, the college’s wellness center was offering 24-hour counseling to all campus members, said college President Donald Zingale.
College resources were directed “toward ensuring that our students, faculty, staff and parents are given all assistance necessary to cope with this heartbreaking situation,” in a statement released Wednesday by the college.
“We all mourn her loss…
“The SUNY Cobleskill community is shocked and saddened by the tragic passing of Ms. Cornelius” and President Zingale “expresses his deepest condolences to Elizabeth’s family and friends.”
The Village Police were assisted by the New York State Police, the Sheriff’s office and the Cobleskill University Police.
