Cops seek 3 from burglary in progress

5/11/2011

The Cobleskill Village Police are seeking three people who broke into and attempted to steal items from Strong’s Towing early Friday morning.
Police said Patrolmen J. Rorick and B. MacFadden were on routine patrol when they disrupted a burglary in progress at Strong’s Towing on MacArthur Avenue at about 12:23am.
They observed three subjects running from the rear of the building, police said. The subjects, described as three men, ran north from the building across the CP Rail train tracks toward Main Street. They dropped the items that they were attempting to take from Strong’s as they fled.
Police were unable to locate the suspects.
The police conducted an investigation and found that the subjects forced their way into the business via a window on the west side of the business.
The subjects, police said, also attempted to steal property out of vehicles parked in the business parking lot, including tools, keys and a stereo.
Village Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the suspects and/or burglary to contact the police at 234-2923. All information provided will be kept confidential.
Police added that theft is a crime of opportunity.
They encourage and remind residents and business owners to take steps such as the following to help in limiting the opportunity for someone to take property:
• Do not leave personal property/valuables in a vehicle.
• Do not leave valuables inside a home or business in plain view.
• If no one is at home or at a business at night, leave the lights on.
• Make sure all vehicles are locked when they are parked and unattended.
• Lock homes and businesses when no one is there.
