Three people were arrested last week in connection of the theft of four long guns and a knife from two homes in Gilboa in early July.
The Loudonville State Police said that Michael J. Chamberlain, 21, of Church Street in Central Bridge and Sara L. Eldred, 33, of Straub Lane in Middleburgh allegedly committed the burglaries and Corey W. Bartholomew, 22, of Route 30, Middleburgh, allegedly possessed the weapons.
The three were arrested after a three-week investigation by the Cobleskill State Police.
Numerous interviews by Troopers led to the identity of the three suspects as well as the location of two Remington shotguns, two Ruger semi-automatic rifles and a Buck knife that were stolen during the burglaries, police said.
Mr. Chamberlain and Ms. Eldred were arrested on charges of first-degree burglary, endangering the welfare of a child and making a false statement, police said, while Mr. Bartholomew was arrested on charges of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and endangering the welfare of a child.
Mr. Bartholomew allegedly possessed the weapons in the presence of two young children which prompted Troopers to charge the three with endangering the welfare of a child charges, police said. This information was developed by the Schoharie County Child Protective Services and turned over to the State Police.
Police said that Mr. Chamberlain and Ms. Eldred provided false information to Troopers.
Mr. Chamberlain and Ms. Eldred were arraigned in the Town of Gilboa court and sent to jail without bail, police said, and Mr. Bartholomew was released on his own recognizance.
The State Police are working with the Schoharie County District Attorney's office and Child Protective Services and additional arrests are anticipated.
