Iroquois Gas $ to fund Carlisle pavilion

If volunteers step up to help, Carlisle will have a new pavilion for the community to use this fall.
Much of the 60-by-40-foot pavilion, which would stand in front of the new town hall on Crommie Road, would be funded by a $10,000 grant from Iroquois.
Town Councilman Ed Sisson outlined the project to residents and fellow town board members last Wednesday night.
The pavilion would cost $40,000 to $45,000 if the town bid it out and had a contractor handle the job, Mr. Sisson said.
But he's counting on volunteer labor and donated materials to cut the expected contractor's price by at least half.
"I know a lot of people in town and you do, too, who would be willing to work on this," Mr. Sisson told the audience of about 30.
"I'm sure a couple of local contractors would help," agreed Supervisor Larry Bradt.
Mr. Sisson listed several people who have already volunteered labor or supplies for the pavilion.
Tentatively, he said, the pavilion would go up on weekends in October and November.
Mr. Bradt described the pavilion as "the start of a park" that would eventually have basketball courts, a softball field and more.
"It would be for the community," Mr. Bradt said. "It's for family activities."
Although volunteers have already committed some materials, others must be purchased. The Iroquois grant will cover most, but residents discussed fundraising projects to cover the rest.
Mr. Sisson listed materials still needing to be donated:
•Hemlock 2x6s and 2x8s in 12, 14 and 16 feet.
•Short locust logs.
•Electrical expertise to install wiring and lights.
•A scissors lift, JLG lift and/or a fork lift.
•Labor to help set posts, mix Sakrete, place the slab and work on the metal roof.
"I'd like to see others come and help, and I know you want to," Mr. Sisson told the audience.
