MOSA hazardous drop-off ends Monday

10/11/2011

The drop-off locations for household hazardous waste in Howes Cave and the Village of Schoharie will be closing on Saturday, October 15.
Residents whose homes have been flooded should be aware of potential chemical hazards that may exist in their home. Flood waters may have displaced or damaged containers of everyday items such as household cleaners, fertilizers, and pesticides.
People can be exposed to dangerous chemicals when cleaning flooded homes and disposing of these flood-damaged household items.
Residents may bring household cleaners, paints, automotive fluids, batteries, lawn care products, propane tanks, alcohol based beauty products, mercury containing items, CFL and fluorescent light bulbs, along with other items containing hazardous chemicals to the following locations:
•Howes Cave: Montgomery-Otsego-Schoharie Solid Waste Management Authority office, 2783 State Route 7.
•Village of Schoharie: Former Great American parking lot, Main Street and Furman Drive.
This is a free service that has been established by the Environmental Protection Agency, Schoharie County DEC, and local representatives.
County residents are encouraged to bring any remaining household hazardous waste to these collection centers before they close on Saturday, October 15.
Hours of operation are 8am-6pm.
Ammunition and guns will not be accepted at any facility.
Caution should be taken when collecting and transporting items.
