Sharon hires planner, attorney to look at drilling

In an effort to protect its environment, natural resources and community character the town of Sharon has hired Nan Stolzenburg, AICP CEP of Community Planning & Environmental Associates and John Lyons, Esq. of Grant & Lyons, LLP to draft amendments to the Town Comprehensive Plan and the Land Use Code to address the potential adverse impacts of gas drilling.
Ms. Stolzenburg and Mr. Lyons have worked together with several upstate New York communities to help them contend with natural gas drilling through local regulations.
Ms. Stolzenburg is principal planner and owner of Community Planning and Environmental Associates and a Certified Planner and Certified Environmental Planner with a master's degree in regional planning.
She has over 20 years of professional and technical experience in many areas of land use and the environment, with special interests in small town and rural planning, community revitalization, comprehensive planning, and public participation.
Her specialty areas include land use planning techniques for rural and small communities, Main Street revitalization, comprehensive plan development, community involvement strategies, zoning and land use regulations, and environmental planning.
She has developed many comprehensive plans for upstate New York communities, some of which have won national and state-level planning awards.
Mr. Lyons is an attorney who has practiced actively in the fields of land use, environmental and real estate law since his admission to the bar in 1985.
Since co-founding the firm of Grant & Lyons, LLP, in 1994, he has completely dedicated his practice to those fields.
He has represented municipalities in connection with land use, zoning and environmental matters and is particularly experienced in all facets of environmental reviews conducted pursuant to the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA).
He is also experienced in defending both governmental and private lawsuits brought pursuant to the state and federal superfund laws.
Mr. Lyons began his career as a litigator and has developed a broad range of litigation experience in connection with land use and environmental issues.
Ms. Stolzenburg and Mr. Lyons will be working closely with Town Attorney Michael West and the Joint Planning Board over the next few months.
