Middleburgh Central School fficials are holding a meeting to update the district's evacuation plan.
Concerns have been raised by parents about the district's evacuation plan after the August 28 flood and the dam failure rumor the following day.
Superintendent Michele Weaver last week said officials will begin an important part of the plan, a communication system to notify parents and community members.
"It's desperately needed," she said.
The district will work with BOCES and is testing out three different systems, Ms. Weaver said.
Current plans call for students from both schools to walk to the bus garage in case of an emergency and be bused to Berne-Knox schools.
In case some students cannot get to Berne-Knox, they would be taken to another school but this "split" would not be ideal, Ms. Weaver said.
On the night of the August 28 flood, the direct route to Berne-Knox was blocked.
Ms. Weaver said officials were to review the plans Thursday and go over an evacuation drill. A drill will be held with students in the future.
The district's health and safety risk management program coordinator through BOCES has already conducted an overview of the district's safety plans including the evacuation plan.
The program coordinator, said that under the SAVE legislation, the plans could not be posted on the web because it would compromise the safety of the plan and ultimately the safety of the students.
A meeting is to be held between school, village, town, law enforcement and county officials to discuss the response to the flood and to review the current disaster plans.
