Town of Schoharie officials should be back in their town hall by April 1.
Town board members approved a bid from Schoenecker Construction Company Wednesday to repair the town hall at 300 Main Street for $289,448.
The board had three bids on the work, which includes electrical. Two bids, which were around $290,000, stated the work would be done in 90 days while another, for $328,000, stated the work would be done in 60 days.
A penalty clause of $100 a day for failure to complete the work on time will be part of the final agreement.
Supervisor Martin Shrederis said he believed that the town's insurance would cover most of the cost.
There is a $25,000 deductible but Mr. Shrederis said he hopes the town can recover that amount from FEMA, though it may take up to two years to get those funds.
The town offices were moved to the former Jack Miller Tractor building on Fort Road. The fire department has a seven-month lease that runs out in April, Mr. Shrederis said.
"Let's get the building done and back in it," Mr. Shrederis.
The offices in the town hall, which was heavily damaged during the August 28, will have a similar arrangement in the renovated town hall. There will be some space available in one half of the town hall for another tenant.
In other building action, the board named Matt Fagnani as clerk of the works for the reconstruction project at a salary of $17,500.
