Snowmobilers warn: Stay off damaged trails

Closed means closed.
That's the message the Sharon Pathfinders Snowmobile Club wants to get out to those using its trails.
Flooding from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee damaged a number of trails in the club's extensive system and while some have been repaired, others remained closed.
Of particular concern, said Pathfinders' Vice President Doug Bartlett, is Trail S70, which runs from Sakon Road through Seward and Dorloo to Lowe Road.
The trail crosses a private bridge, which is unsafe and closed until spring when extensive repairs will need to be made.
Trails in general are closed unless there's at least six inches of snow, but Mr. Bartlett said some people have been using the trail-and ignoring the barricades and orange fencing posted at both ends of it.
"It's just not safe," he said, "and we need to get the word out there. Snow hasn't been a big issue so far, but if we get a storm, people need to pay attention to the barricades and use alternate trails."
So far, Mr. Bartlett said, the bridge's owner and the Pathfinders have struck out on finding an immediate solution to the problems there and are now waiting on spring.
"This is a big bridge-big enough for a vehicle," he said. "Maybe some else has some ideas on what we can do."
