Middleburgh Central School officials are looking for some help from their friends to make the district's athletic fields playable once again.
Volunteer field cleanup days have been set for Saturday and Sunday to make the softball, baseball and soccer fields playable again, said Superintendent Michele Weaver.
Board member Mike Fisher is coordinating the volunteer effort.
The volunteer days are to run from 9am to 4pm on each day.
Those available to help need to register at the volunteer tent behind the school. Check the district website for specific information.
The fields and the track were severely damaged by the August 29 flood. The waters from Hurricane Irene left tons of silt on the fields forcing the soccer teams to play their home games at the Valley Soccer fields in Fulton. The softball team is playing home games in Central Bridge and the baseball team is playing its home games at various locations.
The school board had a choice whether to make the field playable or to restore them to pre-flood condition.
"We're making our fields playable," Superintendent Weaver said.
Board members agreed to call upon the volunteer efforts of the community to repair the fields, she said.
"We have a community that's very supportive," she said.
The Superintendent said she is not sure of the local costs for the repair work.
Some work such as re-coating the tennis courts and track, have to be done professionally, but volunteers can prep those areas.
