Last piece of Route 7 funding in place

The final chunk of funding for Cobleskill's Route 7 water and sewer line expansion is in.
An April 11 letter from the Empire State Development Corporation confirmed a $4.1 million grant for the estimated $7.8 million project.
"This is history in the making," Supervisor Tom Murray said, sharing the news with Mayor Mark Galasso and trustees.
"It's more important than anyone realizes or this room would be packed with people."
Other pieces of the funding puzzle include $2 million from Schoharie County and another $2 million from Howe Caverns, which plans to tap into the water and sewer lines as part of expansion underway there.
The town and county have also applied for funding through Niagara Mohawk for Community Block Grants.
The lines of the new sewer and water districts are being mapped; residents will have the option of tapping into them but new businesses must signup for the services.
The village will sell the water to the district at 1.5 times the going rate. It will also maintain and service the district and will provide police coverage there.
The town will be responsible for project construction.
The project is expected to be bid in July with a 13-month construction schedule.
Mayor Galasso said the next step in the project is finessing village and town planning requirements so that there's coordinated development in the corridor-something he hopes will boost the village's tax base.
