Richmondville man, a counselor, arrested on sex abuse charges

A Richmondville man who worked as a counselor in Bassett School-Based Health clinic in Worcester and Schenevus schools was arrested last week after allegedly having sexual contact with a 12-year-old.
The Sidney State Police said Robert S. Schreiner, 50, was charged with first-degree criminal sexual act, a Class B felony, Wednesday.
Police said an investigation revealed that he allegedly subjected the 12-year-old to sexual contact in the Town of Maryland, Otsego County and in the Town of Richmondville.
He was arraigned in the Town of Maryland and released on bail, police said.
Mr. Schreiner was arrested on criminal sexual act charges on Thursday in connection with the allegations in Richmondville, police said.
He was arraigned in Richmondville court and sent to jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, police said, and members of the public with any information are asked to contact the Oneonta State Police at (607) 432-3211.
The school superintendents from Worcester and Schenevus each informed parents of the arrest on the school websites.
Each superintendent said the child's identity has not been disclosed by police.
Though the superintendents each said they do not have any other specific information from the police on the allegations, they will do their best to keep parents informed.
School officials at Worcester and Schenevus said they are both cooperating with the police investigation.
"Please know that we take the safety, health, and security of every child in our care very seriously, and be assured that we are taking all necessary steps to ensure that your children are safe," wrote Worcester Superintendent William Diamond on the school website.
Schenevus Superintendent Thomas Jennings wrote a similar message on that school's website.
