25th Community Thanksgiving ready to go
11/13/2012 |
Plans are coming together quickly for Schoharie County's annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner next Thursday.
The dinner will be at the Day's Inn--the former Holiday Inn Express--in Schoharie, and the serving is at 1pm.
As in the past, the dinner is free and is for residents who might be alone on Thanksgiving or who would like to enjoy the fellowship of others.
The meal is provided through donations, which are coming in well, according to Kevin Neary of the Thanksgiving Day Dinner Committee.
"People are contributing, and that's a great thing," Mr. Neary said. "This is a big year for us--it's our 25th, so we want it to be special."
Volunteers will serve the meal, and Mr. Neary expects students from Cobleskill-Richmondville and Schoharie to help out.
Organizers are asking for reservations, which can be made by calling the county Office for the Aging at 295-2001.
Arrangements can be made for transportation to and from the dinner.
There will also be home-delivered meals, which can be ordered by calling the above number.
"If you can't make it, we can deliver a hot meal right to your doorstep," Mr. Neary said.
Donations are still welcome. Checks can be made payable to the Thanksgiving Day Dinner Committee 2012 and mailed to Thanksgiving Day Dinner, PO Box 177, Richmondville, NY 12149.
