1/22/2013 |
A 21-year-old Warnerville man was caught and jailed Monday after what police said was a purse snatch in the Price Chopper parking lot.
Jacob V. Olivieri-McKersie was charged with third-degree robbery, a Class D felony; fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony; and petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor.
He was jailed in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond and was expected back in Town of Cobleskill Court last night, Tuesday, to answer the charges.
Cobleskill Village Police said they received a report that a robbery had just occurred in the parking lot of Price Chopper at about 12:10pm Monday.
Police said a 53-year-old woman said she was entering Price Chopper when a man ran up behind her and grabbed her purse before fleeing on foot toward the Best Western.
Police said the woman pursued the man but lost sight of him; several witnesses saw the incident and assisted the victim.
Officers from the Cobleskill Police Department, assisted by Cobleskill State Police, the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office, and EnCon Police responded to the scene and immediately began a search for the suspect and an investigation.
Video surveillance of the incident showed a suspect vehicle that was subsequently identified.
CPD members also recovered property taken from the victim along North Street in the village.
Within two hours, police said, they'd identified Mr. Olivieri-McKersie as the suspect and brought him to the CPD for questioning.
Witnesses were also interviewed.
Additionally, police said, a search of Mr. Olivieri-McKersie's home resulted in the recovery of property belonging to the woman.
At 4:30pm, Mr. Olivieri-McKersie was charged and sent to the Schoharie County Jail.
Additional charges are pending.
Anyone with more information is asked to contact Sergeant Rich Bialkowski at the CPD, 234-2923.
