Shelter gets disaster grant from Petfinder

The Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley has received a disaster grant of $4,000 from the Petfinder Foundation to assist with the veterinary expenses incurred after the rescue of 99 cats from a local hoarding situation on January 23.
"We are so grateful to Petfinder for responding so quickly to our need for funds to help with the medical needs, medications, and spay/neuter for these animals," said Shelter Treasurer Judy Sirena.
"We ended up starting the cats on a second antibiotic because the first did not cure the problems they were experiencing upon admission to the Shelter, which was an unexpected additional cost. We are hoping all will be well soon, and at that time they will be ready for spay or neuter and then adoption.
"Petfinder has the largest online searchable database of adoptable pets nationwide, and we use it to post our own available animals to the widest audience possible," Ms. Sirena added. "To receive this additional help from them, and so quickly, let us know help is there when we need it."
