The Cobleskill State Police arrested two people on burglary charges after two Troopers discovered a burglary in progress in Gilboa early Friday morning.
As Troopers Jason Seaman and Mark DeMichele approached a home on Potter Mountain Road at about 1:55am Friday, the two people attempted to drive away. When the vehicle was stopped, police observed a large tool box in the rear seat and footprints in the snow leading to a residence.
William A. Person, 41, of Northville and Wendy J. Ryan, 52, of Middleburgh were arrested on charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, according to police.
The two allegedly entered the home and removed a flat screen television, a DVD player, and a tool box. They also allegedly removed some copper pipes, destroying the heating system.
A search warrant was executed on Ms. Ryan's Mercury and revealed the copper in the trunk, police said.
Mr. Person was arraigned in the Town of Cobleskill court and sent to jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond, according to police. Ms. Ryan was released on her own recognizance.
The State Police are working with the Schoharie County District Attorney's office and additional arrests are anticipated.
