137th Sunshine Fair kicks off Saturday

The Fabulous Beekman Boys and the Bee Gees will be among the highlights of the 137th Schoharie County Sunshine Fair when it kicks off Saturday for its eight-day run.
Other first-time attractions will include big cats and flying K-9s while back for repeat performances will be the Painted Pony Rodeo and musical act Vocal Trash.
Sharon Springs' Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge, known as the Fabulous Beekman Boys and December winners of CBS's "Amazing Race," will be grand marshals for the Grand Sunshine Fair Parade, set for Wednesday at 6:30pm.
Fireworks will follow at 9:30pm.
Wednesday is also Sunshine Fair Appreciation Day with discounted gate admission.
Powers Great American Midway will be back for the July 27-August 3 Fair; other favorites will include daily horse and livestock shows with dairy cows filling the Cattle Barns for the first half of the Fair and beef cows the second half.
There will be daily performances by John Misita's K9s in flight, Frisbee and dock diving dogs that have been featured in Dog Fancy Magazine and toured with Animal Planet; Hot Dog Pig Racing, and Rosaire's Big Cat Encounter with performing lions and tigers.
Onstage entertainment will include Vocal Trash, Saturday-Tuesday; Soul Men, a Blues Brothers tribute on Saturday, the 27th; the Penn Dixie Band on Wednesday, the 31st and Saturday, August 3; and Night Fever, a Bee Gees tribute, also on the 3rd.
Motorized attractions in front of the grandstand will include truck and tractor pulls, the Demolition Derby Monday, July 29 and Friday and Saturday August 2-3; and the Z-Edge Max Monster Truck Show Tuesday, the 30th.
Harness racing will also take place in front of the grandstand Monday at 11am and the Painted Pony Rodeo will be back there Thursday, August 1, at 7pm.
Daily specials include: Senior Day, Monday, July 29; ARC Appreciation and Young America Day, Thursday, August 1, and Salute to America Day with free admission to all veterans with an ID, Friday, August 2.
