Sharon Springs could be getting a Dollar General.
Codes Enforcement Officer said he's received an inquiry from Primax Construction regarding the steps needed to put a Dollar General in Mary's Church, the former Catholic church on Route 20 about a half-mile east of the village.
It's not clear whether they'd renovate or take down the old church for the store, Mr. DiMarco told Mayor Doug Plummer and trustees Thursday, but it's likely the latter.
"It could be a very positive thing for Sharon Springs," said Mayor Plummer.
Primax Construction reps have said they're interested in pursuing the project "in the coming year."
It is a permitted use for the site, which is located across Route 20 from Dairyland.
Dollar Generals aren't "dollar stores," but rather small variety stores typically located in communities not served by retailers like Wal-Mart-though it would sit next door to the Sharon Wal-Mart Distribution Center.
The most recent Dollar General sales flyer features items like office and school supplies, packaged food, and grilling and gardening products.
