Members of Cobleskill's Zion Lutheran Church will be serving free lunches-to everyone---while kids are on Christmas break from school, and they're looking for help.
The congregation is reaching out to other churches as well as community service organizations and individuals interested in lending a hand by providing food, serving, or even just showing up with books or crafts.
Lunch will be served Monday-Friday, December 23-January 3, with the exception of Christmas and New Year's Days.
Judy Warner, president of Zion's Church Council, said they have juice and milk available and expect to serve at least 30 people each day.
The menu is: December 23, grilled cheese and soup; December 24, hot dogs and beans; December 26, macaroni and cheese; and December 27, pizza.
Also: December 30, tacos; December 31, pancakes; January 2, goulash; and January 3, pizza.
Ms. Warner said the Christmas break lunches hope to build on the success of the free lunch program the church held over the summer.
That was grant funded, she said-this is not-and some days, they fed as many as 40-45 people.
"There is definitely a lot of need out there," Ms. Warner said, "especially when school isn't in session. This may be the only hot meal kids get.
"Over the summer, kids were telling us that without our meals, they'd just be eating crackers."
The lunches are free and everyone is welcome.
