Field crowded with T-J Star nominations

Though Nancy Brumaghim is the 2013 Times-Journal Star, there were plenty of other worthy contenders-in fact, a whole constellation of them.
Here are the other nominees and why they were put up for the long-running honor.
_ Bill Morton, for planting all of the wildflowers in the Village of Middleburgh for everyone to enjoy.
_ Bill and Bonnie Morton, for Mr. Morton's wildflowers, pavilion, Middleburgh murals and work on the Timothy Murphy Trail and Ms. Morton's support of his work.
_ Earl Gaskill, for "his tireless efforts to represent people's concerns over the local pipeline and fracking issues."
_ Patricia Broncaforte, for her work on the Middleburgh murals.
_Judy MacLaughlin, for serving the Schoharie County Child Development Council for the past 20 years and for her work with SALT.
"Judy's presence and contributions will be sorely missed when she retires at the end of the year."
_ Florita Winegard, "She is such a generous woman who gives not only money, but with her time, preparation of meals, boxes of clothing and household items, as well as her positive and happy demeanor."
_ Cherie Stevens, for her work with Marathon for a Better Life, theater and music groups, and other efforts. "She is a great mentor."
_ Mary Sagendorf, a longtime volunteer for the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, she's also involved with the hospital auxiliary, where she frequently logs the most hours.
_ Darlene Patterson, for her work as head of the Schoharie Promotional Association.
_ Michael Lent, for his selfless volunteers efforts with everything from the Cobleskill Rescue Squad, Lil' Dawgs, the CROP Walk, and more.
_ Coleen DeLorenzo, for her work and encouragement with Maranatha's Biggest Loser, which she will be transferring to the newly-opened FIT Coalition.
_ Dave Laraway, for his service to the community and for his gardening expertise and wonderful products.
_ The late Smiley Thorington, for his love and dedication to the community.
_ The citizens of Schoharie County, for embracing their hardships and issues; Floods, government angst, pipelines, fracking and more."
_ Jim Poole, for his work faithfully producing the news of Schoharie County 52 weeks a year "for how many years now? And he has done an excellent job. Even though I am thousands of miles away, I watch the website lead stories every week."
_ Josh DeBartolo, for his work starting Schoharie Recovery.
_ Sharon Aitchison, Ginny Schaum and Betty Pilsbury, the originators of the Schoharie County Quilt Barn Trail.
"These ladies have put their hearts and souls into this great project."
_ Anne and Pat Donnelly, "volunteerism is their specialty," with Historic Treasures, Honor Flight, the Arboretum and other efforts and organizations.
_ Janet Putnam, for her time and sponsorship of Wreaths Across America, a program which honors vets by putting wreaths on their graves at Christmastime.
_ Renee Grabowski and Don Airey, who "have been tireless volunteer leaders of the flood recovery and revitalization efforts for the Town of Blenheinm and surrounding communities.
"[They] have lifted the spirits of the residents of Blenheim following the floods and have demonstrated the best of citizenship and commitment to their community."
_ Fred and Dawn Benninger, for the many kind and good things they do through their businesses, Fred's Sanitation and Hide Away Campsites.
_ Janet Nelson, "because she is a businessowner, helpful, honest, and hard-working.
_ Jacqui Hauser, for making Empty Bowls a "souper event."
