Seward: Route 10 on DOT to-do list

4/15/2014

The pot-holed and cracked condition of Route 10 in Summit may be a thing of the past.
Senator Jim Seward announced last week that he's finalized an agreement with the state Department of Transportation to repair the main road between Richmondville and Jefferson.
That section of Route 10 has been in rough shape for several years. "Caution" signs warn drivers about the condition.
Senator Seward said constituents contacted his office about "the deplorable condition.
"I conveyed these concerns personally to the DOT regional director and secured an agreement to make repairs," Senator Seward said.
DOT will begin work as soon as frost is out of the ground and local paving companies have opened their hot-mix plants, according to the Senator.
Highway crews have also been clearing debris and repairing ditches and culverts, along with doing patch paving, in the Summit Lake area.
Senator Seward stressed safety and maintaining infrastructure as benefits of the upcoming project.
"Repairs, like the ones now scheduled for Route 10, are vital, and I appreciate the DOT's promise of swift action," Senator Seward said.
In other transportation funding in the new state budget, Senator Seward pointed to $3.7 million in CHIPS funding for Schoharie County and individual towns and villages.
Also, the county, towns and villages will receive $383,595 in new funding to pay for repairs to recover from severe winter weather.
"This state funding will help maintain and improve key transportation components and relieve a major stress on local municipal budgets," Senator Seward said.
