Summit man arrested in bowling league theft

The Cobleskill State Police arrested the treasurer for the Cobleskill Bowling League Friday on charges of stealing half the money he collected.
Charles A. Bowen, 50, of Summit had been elected as treasurer and given the task of collecting money from each of the 50 members, according to the State Police. He was collecting membership dues from September 2013 to April 2014.
He received $20,000 but an investigation revealed that he had allegedly taken nearly $10,000 of that money for his personal use, police said.
Other league officers had noticed that some of the bills paid from that fund were returned for insufficient funds which sparked an inquiry, police added.
Mr. Bowen was charged with felony third-degree grand larceny, according to police.
Mr. Bowen was arraigned before a Cobleskill town justice and sent to Schoharie County jail, according to police.
