A work day to install a 10-station fitness trail will be held Thursday, July 3, 10am in Sharon Springs' Chalybeate Park.
Holes for the equipment, which will need to be sunk in cement, will be dug ahead of time; volunteers are welcome to lend a hand with the actual installation.
The trail will complement other improvements in the park, which has been re-planted with grass seed after a delivery of about 100 tons of top soil a couple of weeks ago, said Mayor Doug Plummer.
The 2014 Summer Concert Series in Chalybeate Park kicks off Wednesday, July 2, with Children's Night, featuring magician Joey D, beginning at 7pm, when the Rec Commission will also be on hand with fun and summer program signups.
Thanks to Fabulous Beekman Boys Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge and the Enjoy Sharon Springs festivals, a new pavilion with an old look will be going up in the park for the concerts and other activities.
Mayor Plummer said the Beekmans donated $5,000 from a speaking engagement toward the pavilion and Joe Todd Campbell added another $5,000 from the festivals for a pavilion that will resemble the 1874 Sulphur Temple that once stood in the park.
There's no timetable for the construction, Mayor Plummer said, but the hope is that it will go up sometime in July.
In addition to the concerts, it will be available for things like family picnics and gatherings, he said.
