The Town of Cobleskill's $9.2 million water and sewer project looks like it will be finished on time and on budget, Supervisor Leo McAllister said Monday.
The project runs both water and sewer from the Village of Cobleskill along Route 7 and to Howe Caverns.
Mr. McAllister said it looks like the water work will be done by the end of this week and the sewer lines will be completed by mid-August.
After that, the Department of Health needs to sign off on the project and then residents can start hooking up.
"I asked three times and I've been assured it'll all be done by August 15," Mr. McAllister said.
"I feel pretty confident. I just hope I don't come back in August and say I was stupid."
The mid-August date is important because Stewart's wants to break ground on its new store at the corner of Routes 7 and 145 by August 25, he said,
"And they won't start unless they're assured the project will be completed and they can hook up," he said.
Tentative plans call for a grand opening in late October or early November for the new store.
The only issue with the project has been that grant monies have been coming in slowly, Mr. McAllister said, but he pointed out that's always the case.
"I'm pretty happy that we'll be in good shape with this," he added.
