A few members of the Cobleskill-Richmondville class of 2014 took a bit longer to graduate, but that didn't diminish the pride in their accomplishments.
Five seniors received diplomas at a brief summer school commencement Monday night in the high school theater.
Matt Davenport, Elizabeth Garreau and Brittany Klopman took part in the ceremony, while Zach McFarland and Julianna Scavullo received their diplomas in absentia.
"I offer my sincere congratulations to you," said school board President Bruce Tryon.
"And congratulations, too, to the parents, grandparents and friends who helped you."
Superintendent Lynn Macan, in one of her last duties before retiring, said the students' determination to earn diplomas showed character.
"That talent of sticktoitivness will serve you well in the future," Dr. Macan said.
"Remember that Cobleskill-Richmondville will be your home. Let us know about your inevitable successes."
High School Principal Mel Ausfeld said an August graduation was just as meaningful--and maybe more so--as one in June.
"It is hard to convey the pride that I feel thinking about the different path that each of these fine young adults has taken," Ms. Ausfeld said.
"Although each path was different, they all share the same outcome--a graduate of the class of 2014."
Before presenting diplomas, Ms. Ausfeld praised each student. The new grads walked across the stage and were congratulated by Dr. Macan and school board members.
A reception followed in the hall of flags.
