Thanksgiving Dinner needs a place to cook, eat

Schoharie County's Thanksgiving Day Dinner needs help-beginning with someplace to hold and cook this year's meal.
Organizers will hold a meeting at 9am this Friday at the Office of Emergency Services (formerly the MOSA building), Route 7, Howes Cave and anyone who can lend a hand or help out is welcome.
2014 will mark the 28th year of the Thanksgiving Day Dinner, offered free to anyone who wants to participate.
Originally, the dinner was a sit-down event with limited take-out, but in '13, it was take-out only, in part because of the difficulty of finding a place to hold it.
Kevin Neary, one of the longtime organizers, said they're looking at the same problem this year, only worse: They also need a place to prepare the take-out meals.
"We know a lot of people depend on it," Mr. Neary said. "If we can find a place for a sit-down meal, we'll do it. But what we really need is a place to do the cooking."
The Thanksgiving Day Committee will be supporting Blenheim's Thanksgiving Day Dinner at the Blenheim Firehouse-take-outs only this year-and will consider supporting any other organization interested in sponsoring their own meal or take-outs.
In addition to volunteers for the 2014 event-whatever it is-Mr. Neary said they're also looking for volunteers or organizations interested in taking it over in the coming years.
To help or for more information, go to Friday's meeting or call Mr. Neary at 294-6543 or Ethel Benninger, another longtime member of the group, at 868-9933.
