C-R middle schooler charged with knife threat

A Cobleskill-Richmondville Middle School student has been charged after he displayed a knife at another student, according to school officials.
The student reportedly showed the open knife to an elementary student while the two were watching a modified soccer game on the Ryder-Golding campus last Monday, October 6, Superintendent Carl Mummenthey said.
The younger student alerted an adult, who in turn called Cobleskill Village Police and notified the coaching staff at the scene.
Besides facing charges as a juvenile, the middle school student will face consequences under the district's Code of Conduct.
Because the incident is a school disciplinary matter, C-R is not releasing more details.
"The safety and security of students, staff and visitor is always our highest concern at Cobleskill-Richmondville," Mr. Mummenthey said.
C-R prohibits weapons of any kind on school grounds, and "the district will respond swiftly and severely to these kinds of actions," he said.
Police charged the middle school student, a boy, with menacing. He was turned over to the Schoharie County Probation Department, who will handle the case from there, Police Chief Rich Bialkowski said.
Mr. Mummenthey added that the elementary student took the proper course by immediately notifying an adult. He also thanked police for their prompt response.
