A Middleburgh man was stabbed in the buttocks at least twice Thursday evening after an argument turned violent on Main Street in Middleburgh.
A group of people were talking near the alley next to Mrs. K's Kitchen at about 6pm when an argument ensued, according to Schoharie County Sheriff Tony Desmond. During the argument, Ronald Fahrenkopf, 36, of Guinea Road, got out of a parked pickup truck and allegedly stabbed a 19-year-old man at least twice in the buttocks.
The victim felt something hit him in the rear and walked to the Apple Food Store, Sheriff Desmond added. The victim looked in the mirror and saw blood. His friends helped him back to his apartment on Main Street.
He was treated in his apartment by MEVAC personnel and then transported to Cobleskill Regional Hospital. He was later transferred to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown where he spent Thursday night, the Sheriff said.
It is not yet known what the argument was about, according to the Sheriff.
"They were all talking and they had some words and it became an argument."
The victim was stabbed with a sharp instrument, though police do not yet know what type of instrument, Sheriff Desmond said. When police arrived at the scene, the victim was talking and conscious.
The Sheriff's office located Mr. Fahrenkopf at his home at about 9pm. He has been charged with third-degree assault. More charges are possible, according to Sheriff Desmond.
In addition to the Sheriff's office and MEVAC, the Schoharie Police and the State Police also responded to the scene.
