Schoharie CDC closes on first home

On October 31, the Schoharie Community Development Corporation (CDC) closed on its first newly built home on Bridge Street in the Village of Schoharie.
The Schoharie CDC has been actively pursuing grants for village businesses for the past 10 years.
Low interest loans had been issued to nine businesses before the flood of 2011 toward improvements and upgrades.
After the flood of 2011, monies were made available to build the first home in the village on a lot where a home had been destroyed.
The foundation of the old home was used for the new home and within a short year, the home was completed, placed on the market and sold.
Beth and Dave Gray were relocated to the Walmart Distribution Center in Sharon from Louisiana and applied to the Century 21 Relocation Division through their Walmart Relocation Department.
Originally from Berne, they were familiar with the Village of Schoharie.
They are both interested in becoming involved with the community now that they have moved into their new home.
All of the players in the transaction have donated their time and talents toward making the transaction a successful one.
Schoharie CDC board members under the leadership of Richard Ball, Wanda King, Richard Young, Gene Amedio and Ruth Anne Wilkinson; Mike Breen, attorney for the Schoharie CDC; Ruth Anne Wilkinson and Dean Nunamann of Century 21, Rural Estates, listing and selling real estate company; Wanda King, NBT Village Bank contact; and the Walmart Relocation Division. John Borst, Mayor of Schoharie, Gene Malone, Schoharie Town Supervisor, Bill Farrell of Construction Services, and SALT have all been instrumental in the success of this venture.
Bill Farrell was able to secure volunteers from Hartwick College, the Schoharie community, SALT, and the community of the Palatine Amish to help in the building of the new home.
The Schoharie CDC is now planning its next venture and others to come.
The Schoharie CDC is looking to enlarge its membership and the scope of improvements in and about the Village of Schoharie.
