New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Commissioner Joan McDonald has announced the reopening of the Interstate 88 eastbound Schoharie County Worcester rest area, between the Schenevus exit (18) and the Worcester/East Worcester exit (19), as a parking area and text stop.
The parking area opened November 24 and work to bring the rest area to full service will continue through next spring.
The Worchester rest area was closed in 2010 as a cost-cutting measure. The 2014 State budget allocated $1.2 million for improvements to enable the facility to be reopened.
NYSDOT maintenance forces milled and paved the parking area and sidewalk.
