Schoharie man charged in October fatal

A Schoharie man involved in a motorcycle accident in October that killed a woman has been charged with vehicular manslaughter.
Kristofer J. Govel, 29, of Wright was arraigned on charges of second-degree vehicular manslaughter in the Town of Wright court on November 24, according to the Cobleskill State Police. He is to return to court on December 22.
Mr. Govel was previously arrested in October on charges of driving while intoxicated, moving from lane unsafely, speed not reasonable and prudent, and refusing to take a breath test in connection with the October 1 accident, according to District Attorney James Sacket.
Mr. Govel was allegedly operating a motorcycle on Route 443 at about 12:50am when it crashed in Gallupville, according to police. The motorcycle left the roadway, struck a stand supporting a basketball hoop and continued until it struck a church. Colleen M. Rogers, 24, of Wright was ejected from the motorcycle and died as a result of the accident.
Mr. Govel was injured in the accident, police added.
