C-R teacher on paid leave for text
2/4/2015 |
A Cobleskill-Richmondville teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave pending possible charges of inappropriate conversations with a student.
The Schoharie County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case, and C-R put the teacher on leave last week.
Sheriff Tony Desmond said there are "allegations of improper communications.
"There had been rumors of text messaging and face to face conversations," Sheriff Desmond said.
The man teaches in the high school and is a modified basketball coach at Golding School.
Deputies have interviewed several high school students and had planned to interview two more on Monday, though Monday's storm may have delayed those plans.
"When we get those interviews, we'll either close it out as unsubstantiated or with an arrest," Sheriff Desmond said.
C-R has substitute teachers in place for the man's classes.
"We are committed to providing a safe, engaging learning environment for our students," a C-R statement read.
