Benefit BBQ Saturday for Rivenburgs

6/16/2015

A chicken barbecue this Saturday will help a Middleburgh family that's dealing with cancer.
The barbecue, which will benefit Karl and Kathy Rivenburg, is at the Middleburgh Reformed Church and will run from 3pm to 8pm.
Ms. Rivenburg, who was the Times-Journal's sales manager for nearly 20 years, suffered from cancer in the past.
A new diagnosis late this winter discovered more cancer, and Ms. Rivenburg was slated for chemotherapy.
However, she had a bad reaction to one chemo treatment and has been trying to recover from that for two months.
"Kathy is tough, and she's a fighter, but this time she's been through a lot," said T-J Publisher Jim Poole.
"And it's been difficult for Karl, too. These are wonderful people who need help, and this barbecue will do that."
Family friends Chris Andrew and Jim Buzon are organizing the barbecue. Besides chicken, there will be salads, potatoes, brownies and other desserts.
There will also be a 50-50 raffle and a large silent auction. People need not be present to win.
There's still time to donate items for the silent auction; to do so, call Mr. Andrew at 312-9437.
