Cobleskill pool expects to open by August

Cobleskill is likely to get a little relief from the summer heat next week.
Mayor Linda Holmes said the village pool, closed so far this season, will open the first week of August.
The pool has been closed while a new filtration building is being constructed, Mayor Holmes said after last Tuesday's village board meeting.
The pool might have been open by now, she said, except that the project was delayed three weeks at the start.
Two weeks were lost while hiring regulations were ironed out, and then a third week was lost to rain, Mayor Holmes said.
"So we were three weeks behind right off the bat," she said. "But we'll still have the month of August."
A grant is funding the work, which is expected to cost about $274,000.
Mayor Holmes added that volunteers have helped with the project: Floyd Holmes, Mayor Holmes' husband; town crews, Brendon Becker, Andre Nadeau, members of the Cobleskill Rec Commission and lifeguards hired for the summer.
"We've had many, many volunteer hours put in this project," Mayor Holmes said.
