'Dummy' military missile goes MIA

9/2/2015

An Apache helicopter buzzing Schoharie County Friday wasn't looking for marijuana but rather a missing missile.
According to Fort Drum officials, the dummy missile was lost between 9 and 10:30am Friday during an Apache helicopter flight from the Army base to an air show at Stewart International Airport near Newburgh.
The 100-pound missile is used to simulate the weight of a Hellfire guided missile during training and poses no risk to the public because it's not explosive, they said.
The missing missile is 64 inches long and seven inches wide and painted with the words US Army.
Anyone with information is asked to call local police or the 10th Mountain Division Operations Center at (315) 772-6324.
