State Police in Princetown have arrested a 27-year-old Amsterdam man and charged him with one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular manslaughter, and one count of assault, second degree, all felonies, after a two-car head-on accident last Wednesday killed a mother and daughter from Esperance on Route 30 in the Town of Duanesburg.
Arrested was Joseph E. Duffy.
In addition, Mr. Duffy was also charged with multiple vehicle and traffic violations including DWAI drugs, reckless driving, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle second degree.
Mr. Duffy was arraigned in the Town of Rotterdam Court and sent to the Schenectady County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash/$200,000 bond bail.
The September 2 7:08pm crash occurred in the northbound lane of Route 30, police said.
Three women were traveling in a car northbound on Route 30 and one man-Mr. Duffy--was traveling in a car south on the road.
Two of the three women, Vanessa Cohn, 35, and her daughter Summer Penny, 14, in the northbound vehicle died in the accident, police said.
The other woman in the car, Betty Brockhum, 56, of Gloversville, was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Ms. Brockhum is Ms. Cohn's mother.
