Schoharie County's region wasn't among the big winners when Governor Andrew Cuomo awarded $1.5 billion on Thursday.
The Southern Tier, Central New York and Finger Lakes region each received $500 million under the Governor's Upstate Revitalization Initiative.
The Mohawk Valley--Schoharie, Fulton, Montgomery, Herkimer, Oneida and Otsego counties--received $100.3 million under the Regional Economic Development Council awards.
"Of the regions that didn't get $500 million, we got the most," said Schoharie County Administrator Steve Wilson.
"The way I look at it, the $500 million is $100 million a year for five years. Well, we got $100 million in one year, too."
Disappointed that the Mohawk Valley didn't get $500 million, Mr. Wilson is still working on an economic development strategy. (See related story.)
Schoharie County's share of the $100.3 million comes to about $1.8 million. Recipients are:
•Iroquois Indian Museum, $30,000 for a part-time marketing and community relations manager.
•Schoharie Area Long Term, $90,000 to develop an online map and mobile app to promote tourism.
•Schoharie County, $200,000 to develop a micro-enterprise program.
•SUNY Cobleskill, $125,000 for a food and dairy incubator.
