The long-empty Maranatha gym on Elm Street in Cobleskill will be the new home for Lamont Engineers.
Now in the Mann Block at the corner of Main and South Grand in downtown Cobleskill, the engineering firm purchased the ex-gym several weeks ago, according to Milan Jackson, one of the principal engineers.
The move is expected to be made in August, according to an ad on page 3 in this issue, which describes the purchase.
The Cobleskill gym and the much larger Maranatha gym in Warnerville had been owned by Stella McKenna. However, both properties were put up for auction by one of the creditors, the New York Business Development Corporation, in October.
NYBDC bought both of them back at that auction, the Cobleskill gym for $250,000 and the Warnerville one for $1.3 million.
A Lamont representative was at the October auction but didn't bid. Nonetheless, the engineering company remained interested.
"We've been pursuing that building for some time," said Mr. Jackson.
The new facility will create a more efficient work space, he added.
"Now we're on three, almost four different floors and almost six different work spaces," Mr. Jackson said.
"This will consolidate us onto one floor, and we're hoping it picks up efficiency."
The purchase price was undisclosed.
Lamont Engineers, which has about 20 employees, has been in the Mann Block for more than 30 years. The building is owned by New York City resident Raj Defreitas.
