CPI launches ambitious membership drive

Cobleskill Partnership is looking for a few good men and women.
Actually, the Cobleskill advocacy group is looking for many good men and women.
CPI, which hosts events and sponsors projects in Cobleskill's business district, is holding its most ambitious membership drive ever.
Its usual membership mailing goes to current members for renewals and likely prospective members.
Casting a much wider net this year, CPI sent mailings to every address in Cobleskill, Warnerville and Howes Cave.
"We're not just a business organization," said Executive Director Jacqui Hauser. "We have a lot of individuals, couples and families who want to make Cobleskill a better place to live."
Among CPI's recent projects are the Community Plaza at Main and Division streets, side-street signs, the restoration of the Robin Hood Flour mural, helping fund roof repair at The Community Library, and a façade improvement program that helps businesses with improvements.
CPI events--most held annually--are Earth Day, the Arts in the Park summer music series, Cobleskill Day, Cobleskill Restaurant Week, the holiday parade and tree-lighting and A Taste of Cobleskill, where people can sample offerings from local restaurants.
New events are coming up, too: Midnight Madness, a shopping event in November, and a Cobleskill Area Home and Garden Show in 2017.
CPI and its sub-group, Cobleskill Area Merchants, also focus on other activities that promote businesses in the area, not just downtown.
The membership flyers went out two weeks ago, and Ms. Hauser has already received many. Some are from new members, and others are donations in support of CPI's efforts.
"One person wrote, 'We're no longer physically able to participate, but please accept our donation in support of what you do,' " Ms. Hauser said.
"That means so much to us. People understand that these things--making Cobleskill a better place--are so important."
Membership amounts are $125 for corporate and/or Cobleskill Area Merchant, $45 for not-for-profit and $35 for an individual or family.
Anyone who did not receive a flyer or misplaced one can get another by contacting Ms. Hauser at 296-8122.
