Delivery truck snags wires in Cobleskill

A soda delivery truck snagged some low hanging wires and pulled down several poles snarling traffic in Cobleskill Saturday afternoon.
A Pepsi delivery truck was entering the Price Chopper parking lot off of Barnerville Road at about 12:35pm Saturday to make a delivery to the supermarket when the truck caught on to some low hanging wires, according to Cobleskill Village Police Chief Rich Bialkowski.
The driver did not realize the truck had snagged the wires and when the truck entered the parking lot it took down several utility poles, possibly as many as four, the Chief added.
Power interruption was minimal, according to the Chief. The Bank of Richmondville lost power as did the intersection but most other nearby businesses were able to maintain power.
There were no injuries and the driver was not ticketed, Chief Bialkowski said. It was determined that Verizon phone wires were a little too low.
Utility crews from MidTel, Verizon, and National Grid, and Time-Warner replaced poles and were able to restore all service by Sunday afternoon.
Traffic at the busy intersection had to be rerouted through the Race Printing parking lot and around Burger King.
