Schoharie County Supervisors Friday afternoon agreed to put a road patrolman in the Sheriff's Office on paid administrative leave.
Supervisors spoke about the issue behind closed doors in executive session and did not identify the officer.
Along with remaining on leave, there will be a monthly review by the law and personnel committees, the full board, and the Sheriff's Office.
The original motion before the board headed into executive session was to put the patrolman on leave until the investigation was complete or when the Sheriff determined the officer could return to duty, after a review by the personnel committee and the full board.
Though the officer was not identified, the action comes less than six weeks after a Schoharie County deputy was involved in the accident that resulted in the death of a Middleburgh man.
The deputy, who has not been identified by officials, had not returned to patrols since the June 3 accident in which Joshua C. Camp, 31, fell off a dirt-bike and collided with a Sheriff's Office patrol car, Sheriff Tony Desmond reported late last month.
The incident will likely go to a grand jury to see if any action will be taken against the deputy.
The decision on whether to take the incident to a grand jury will not be made until the report is completed by the State Police.
